Costa Mesa's Neighborhood Blog: Jammin' for Julian - a Community Comes Together for a 5 Year Old

A blog about Newport and Costa Mesa with an emphasis on Costa Mesa Real Estate and Newport Beach Real Estate, written by a lifetime local resident of coastal Orange County whose knowledge of the area, combined with a strong background in mortgages, real estate and being an attorney, gives her clients many advantages.

Jammin' for Julian - a Community Comes Together for a 5 Year Old

In December 2008, 5 year old Julian had surgery to remove a brain tumor.  Though the surgery was successful in removing most of the tumor, not all of it could be removed.  Since that time, Julian has been receiving radiation treatments.

  Julian Dunn Jammin' for Julian

During these many months, he and his family have been amazed at the outpouring of love and support that has been part of this entire experience.  From family, to local schools, to churches and friends, they have received prayers, contributions, meals and love.

Rather than bemoaning the trials and tribulations that have come to their family, his parents have found a way to make something good of his illness.  They have organized a fund raising concert with the performers being children there to help raise money.  This year, the fundraiser is to help with Julian's medical expense.  However, in the years to come, his parents envision this as an annual event that will raise money to help children with serious illnesses.

The Lil' Lighthouse Preschool choir will be performing as will many others.

Today, as the Stage Manager, I was lucky enough to be able to watch the children rehearse, and there are some very talented children who will be performing next week.

It is amazing to me how many people have come together to help this little boy.  In a time of economic turmoil and trouble, rather than focusing on themselves, people are coming together to help this family through a difficult time.  There is so much love and joy surrounding this event, that it is incredible to behold.  And Andrea and Rich, trust that their son will soon be well, and that they will be able to hold this event annually to benefit other children long after Julian is recovered.
