Dogs Can Now Walk the Beach on Balboa Peninsula for an Extra 90 Minutes
The Newport City Council recently voted to allow dogs on the beach on the Balboa Peninsula for an extra 90 minutes each day. Under the new regulations, dogs may not be on the beach between 10am and 4:30pm. Previously, dogs were banned between 9am and 5pm. This is a benefit to those who enjoy walking their dogs during the day, especially as we move into winter and away from daylight savings time.
Fines for violating the ordinance can be pricey. The first violation is $100. The second is $200, and the third violation is $500.

We used to live at the beach and our doggie dearly loved to chase the seafoam and dry blowing seaweed. Hours walking on the beach are great for doggies and owners!
That is great news, I love walking my dog on the beach, he loves bouncing on the sand like it was a little spring board, its funny because he hates the water but he loves the sand...But I am happy that the cities are becoming much more dog friendly, even if it is by 90 minutes.
Vickie - They do love to be on the ocean, and me too.
Doesn't it suck that the few people who don't clean up after their dog or control them ruin it for everyone?
I hope all those California puppies are happy. I am sure their parents are happy that thier schedules can be a bit more flexable. Many people with kids have dinner at 5:00 or 5:30. This is much more convenient.
Why the dog ban in the first place? That seems like a weird regulation. I could understand a full ban or no ban, but a partial ban?
