Herd of Elk on the Side of the Road?!

There may be some who find it normal to find a herd of elk sitting in the shade on the side of the road, but this Southern California native is far from use to finding this sight on the side of the road. So along with about two dozen others who seemed to find this intriguing, we stopped to take photos up in the redwoods.

Christine, how did you get them to pose for the picture? I've never had any luck taking a picture of an elk.
BTW, You were missed at RainCamp last week.
Hey girl! Love the photo--had no idea you lived in an area that had enough forest to house these gorgeous creatures!! LOL Great shot!
Have a terrific Thursday...
Christine, it always makes me laugh when I drive by a sign in SoCal which warns of deer. I would LOVE to see one! I guess if I really want to see a deer or an elk I must head north! Great picture!
Wow, Christine...how wonderful that you got to take advantage of this rare photo opportunity! :)
Leilani
Wow, I can't believe you got a picture of them!
I'm surprised they didn't even get up and start to leave!
I don't think I've ever seen Elk here in Southern California before, Christine.
Leolinda - It looks like they're used to stopping in that meadow for a rest.
I would have loved to go to RainCamp again, but I didn't want to drive all the way and there were no close airports. Another time.
Debe - They don't live near me ; ) My husband wishes we had forests like that nearby. I was up in the Redwoods in Northern California.
Stephanie - I did see a deer in So. Cal. recently. Of courese, it was downtown Avalon ; ) so maybe it doesn't count?
Leilani - We spent a long time watching them.
Coleen - They were great photography subjects.
Carol - There were so many of us gawking at them. It was quite a spectacle.
Heather - We were in Northern California.
Christine, how cool is that. I love to see wild life posing for pictures.
Christine,
That is unusual and great that you had your camera with you to capture it. :)
Steve
Hi Christine... it must have been your lucky day! What gorgeous animals and so willing to be photographed!
Diane - They were very cooperative ; )
Steve H. - Fortunately for me, I usually have a camera with me.
Steve S. - Hi - We were so happy to park on the side of the road and take advantage of the opportunity.
