Costa Mesa's Neighborhood Blog: Fun, Free or Near Free Things to Do in and Around Costa Mesa - Miniature Train Rides

A blog about Newport and Costa Mesa with an emphasis on Costa Mesa Real Estate and Newport Beach Real Estate, written by a lifetime local resident of coastal Orange County whose knowledge of the area, combined with a strong background in mortgages, real estate and being an attorney, gives her clients many advantages.

Fun, Free or Near Free Things to Do in and Around Costa Mesa - Miniature Train Rides

In 1991 the Orange County Model Engineers opened Goathill Junction on 40 acres in Fairview Park.

Free train rides are available to the public every third weekend from 10:00 to 3:30.  This is a lot of fun for all ages, and something that our entire family enjoys on a weekend afternoon.  In December, they've even been known to have a stop to see Santa.

The train rides are about 12 minutes long and are two loops through the park with views of the park and Costa Mesa Golf Course and travel over various terrain including bridges and trestles.

If you're looking for a great little excursion, why not grab the kids and take a ride on the train?

Do you remember the show Silver Spoons? I was always jealous of that minature train they got to ride. Then I found out years later in an interview that the track was only 20 fee long, what you saw on the show was really as far as it went.

Marchel -  It is a lot of fun.  I'm not sure who enjoys it more, the adults or the children.

Todd - I remember Silver Spoons. I thought the train was about the coolest thing.  I never did know the track was so short.
