Costa Mesa's Neighborhood Blog

A blog about Newport and Costa Mesa with an emphasis on Costa Mesa Real Estate and Newport Beach Real Estate, written by a lifetime local resident of coastal Orange County whose knowledge of the area, combined with a strong background in mortgages, real estate and being an attorney, gives her clients many advantages.

You Know You're in a Real Estate Family when . . . the Kids Want to Invite Fannie and Freddie to Dinner

Are your children familiar with Fannie and Freddie?  If they grew up in real estate family like my sister and I did, I bet they would be familiar with them.

 Real estate kids

Real estate must be in my blood.  I'm 4th generation in real estate and haven't escaped it, no matter how hard I tried - college, law school, practicing law, etc.

Mom started her first mortgage company when I was 6, and she was always talking about Fannie and Freddie.  I remember asking her once why she never invited Fannie and Freddie over for dinner.

She was momentarily nonplussed, then started laughing realizing that I was referring to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  She then had to explain to her seven year old that Fannie and Freddie were not real people.  Since I always had more questions, she had to try and explain to me in the simplest terms who, or rather what, Fannie and Freddie were; she also decided she might as well throw in Ginnie Mae while she was at it?

So, my question to you is do your children think Fannie and Freddie should be joining you at the dinner table?
