This post was inspired by Tina Gleisner's How Are Online Relationships Different from Offline?
It got me thinking about whether it's better to develop a relationship online or offline, and I think the answer is they both have something to offer.

Earlier this week, I received 3 referrals and 2 online leads in the course of a few hours. The referrals came from offline relationships - a client, my success coach - Brett Noel, and a member of a networking group. The two online came from two of my websites.
The referrals I received come from the relationships and trust that I have built over time, and the online leads come from my online marketing efforts.
Referrals have a built in trust factor that make it easier to build a relationship, and they are often ready to buy or sell sooner.
The online clients often begin their searches far ahead of time and are, many times, just seeking information at the beginning. They don't know me yet, and may be tentative about divulging information. I have seen many of these become "real world" clients when nurtured over time.
Some people prefer the anonymity available online and use it as a safe way to gather information and begin the decision making process.
Also, being online gives me access to a wider range of people whom I can help than I would be able to reach in the offline "real" world, and in a market like today, the more people I can help the better because so many are confused about what to do next and need a consultant to help them navigate through the process.
To me, both online and offline relationships are important and worthy of the time and effort necessary to help our clients regardless of where they are in the process of buying or selling their home.
