What I Remember Learning in Kindergarten
The first thing I remember is that I must be a whole lot older than I want to think I am because those memories are buried a bit of a way back. But, as I pull back the curtain and dig deep, there are many things I remember.
Probably the strongest memory is that S stands for snake which says "Ssssssssss." Not very important you say? I would disagree. I was reading at 4 and found that would be one of my favorite things in my life resulting in a Bachelors degree in English literature and finally culminating in a law degree, so maybe snakes are an important remembrance.
I also remember that I was the youngest in the class by several months, which makes a very big difference when you're 4 and in a combination kindergarten/first grade classes. Again, a good lesson and good preparation defending the fact that I was too old enough which came in handy when I handled my first deposition at 24, and my client wanted to verify that I was really old enough to be out of high school.
Another wonderful memory is the preacher's son who was my best friend. We chased each other around and around the playground, up and down the slides, played tag, hide and seek and made up hundreds of games with our imaginations. That taught me how important it was to have friends and to nurture those relationships.
I'm sure I learned other things in that entire year,but those are the three that stand out the most as having the greatest effect on my life. So, what I guess I remember is that kindergarten laid a good foundation for the rest of my life.
