Thoughts on Black Friday - "Saving" Money by Over Spending?
For weeks it seems all I saw was advertisements, posts and commentary on Black Friday. This seems to have become a national obsession. Who can be in line first to get the best deals? In line on Monday?! Really!? Shopping is now more important than a meal with your family and friends.
I was raised by a single mother, and I am a fan of the deal, but somehow this seems too much for me.
Is Christmas all about what you get and what you give? Does anybody remember what the holidays are really about? If it's not a religious holiday for you, what about a time to experience the joy of the season, the time with friends and family just rejoicing?
I don't want my children to believe that Christmas is all about the gifts and what they'll get Christmas morning.
For me, I'd rather there be an attitude of gratitude in what we have, even if it isn't a new big screen tv.
So, instead of shopping, we took a bike ride to the beach to enjoy nature together, as a family.
