Eastside Costa Mesa is a charming area of Costa Mesa which borders Newport Beach, and, as a result, tends to have higher property values than some other areas of the city. It is bounded by Irvine Boulevard on the east, Newport Boulevard on the west, 15th Street on the south and Mesa Drive on the north.

Most of the original lots in Eastside Costa Mesa are around 10,000 square feet, a large size lot in Orange County, which allows for space to expand smaller, older homes if desired.

Eastside Costa Mesa is known for wide streets and lovely, mature trees, homes with picket fences and an eclectic mix of different types of homes.

Costa Mesa Real Estate Minute December 27, 2008 - Costa Mesa Market Report

Originally no more than a way station built by Spanish missionaries, Costa Mesa's first real estate development occurred in the 1880s. This failed to prosper, but Costa Mesa became an agricultural center known for apples and lima beans.



Long time residents may remember when the area was called Fairview and Paularino, but today, the city is a focal point in Orange County with the Orange County Performing Arts Center, South Coast Repertory Theatre and South Coast Plaza as major drawing points. It is hard to believe that Costa Mesa was once nicknamed "Goat Hill" because of its rural flavor.


The modern day Costa Mesa real estate market began as beach bungalows just minutes from the ocean. Even then, Costa Mesa, bordering Newport Beach, captured the best of Newport Beach living at a fraction of the cost. While Costa Mesa may be more affordable than comparable homes in Newport Beach or Corona Del Mar, this is a relative matter as all of Orange County real estate is perceived to be some of the most desirable in the United States.

Based upon general definitions, it appears that Costa Mesa should be in a Sellers' Market though it still appears to be a Buyers' market. Given all that is going on in the credit market and the banking industry, we are in an unusual time and will have to see what happens over the next few months as things hopefully begin to stabilize.

Central Costa Mesa is an area of the city, triangular in shape, which is bordered by Harbor Boulevard,  Baker Street and Newport Boulevard/ the 55 Freeway.

Will You Help 5-Year Old Julian this Christmas Season?

This November, Julian was your average 5 year old boy.  He loved to build sandcastles, play with his monster trucks and Thomas the Tank Engine.  He loved to pick flowers and give them to people; he was learning to draw and prayed daily for food to drop down from the sky to feed hungry children.

Then one day, unknown to him and his family, everything changed.  He was sick at school.  Ordinarily, this might not be a big deal, but over the next few weeks, Julian and his family would come to find that this was a symptom of a brain tumor.

In the last few weeks, instead of getting ready for Christmas, visiting Santa and sharing excited dreams with his 7 year old brother, Nolan, about Christmas morning, Julian has had brain surgery which removed all but a small portion of the tumor which was to close to the brain stem to remove safely.  Now it appears there may be cancer in his spinal column.

He will require 55 weeks of intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

             

During this time, Andrea and Richard, his mom and dad, are going to want to spend as much time as possible with him.  Instead of leading cubscouts and writing grants, Andrea will be at CHOC (Childrens' Hospital of Orange County).  Instead of writing PR for his clients, Richard will be with his son.

                                                                                                                   

Unfortunately, both own their own businesses and cannot rely on paid vacations or other corporate assistance to make up for the lost income they have already begun to experience or the mounting medical bills.

                                                                                                                   

Neither have yet begun to consider the financial burden that will follow the emotional burden they already carry.

                                                                                                                     

Julian is my son, David's, friend and classmate at Lil' Lighthouse Preschool, and seeing what is happening has made me so grateful for what I have this holiday (two healthy, happy boys home with me), but it has also made me want to help this family whose only wish as Richard said to me the other night, is to, "Have his family back together again."

Costa Mesa Real Estate Minute December 22 2008 - South Coast Metro Costa Mesa Market Report

South Coast Metro is an area that encompasses both Costa Mesa and Santa Ana. However, the South Coast Metro area in Costa Mesa usually refers to the area east of Bear Street and north of the 405 (San Diego Freeway). It is at the junction of Orange County's 55 and 405 freeways. It is the area of Costa Mesa closest to South Coast Plaza. In this unique neighborhood, premier office space and world class shopping vie with first class dining and performing arts venues to form a cosmopolitan blend of culture and business.

Peanuts House Christmas Display - Eastside Costa Mesa - Delights Kids for Over 40 Years

Are you looking to experience a little more Christmas spirit?

For more than 40 years the Jordan Family has presented the Peanuts House at 2269 Santa Ana Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA which has delighted children and adults alike.

Many times, both as a child and as an adult, I remember seeing this home with its incredible display of all things Peanuts.

Last night, I passed by, and it seems to have gotten even better. In Lucy's Dr. is in stand, they were handing out cider; Snoopy was sitting on a bench visiting with the kids, and Santa was taking pictures with the children for free.

This house embodies so much of the Christmas spirit and is up from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day.

Santa will be visiting this year until December 23rd from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, so if you have never seen this amazing display of lights and animation, do yourself and your kids a favor and stop by in the next couple of days.

I'm going to take my boys over to enjoy it tonight. I can't wait to see their faces.

If you can't make it while Santa is visiting, the display will be up through New Year's Day.

Costa Mesa Real Estate Minute December 20, 2008 - Mesa Verde Costa Mesa Market Report

The Mesa Verde neighborhood of Costa Mesa was largely built around the MesaVerde Country Club, a private club and golf course Costa Mesa Country Club, which is a private course, is also located within Mesa Verde's boundaries.


Most of the homes in Mesa Verde were built in the 1960's and 1970's, with several of the homes actually built right along the golf course.


Mesa Verde is bordered by Fairview Regional Park and the Costa Mesa Golf Course on the south, Harbor Boulevard on the east, the Santa Ana River to the west, and the 405 (San Diego Freeway) on the north.


The Estancia Adobe, built in the late 1800's is also located within Mesa Verde in Estancia Park, and provides insight into the history of this wonderful area of Costa Mesa.

Costa Mesa Real Estate Minute December 19, 2008 - Westside Costa Mesa Market Report

Southwest Costa Mesa, better known as the Westside or Westside Costa Mesa, is a wonderful area of Costa Mesa which borders both Newport Beach and Huntington Beach. It is typically quantified as being West of Newport Boulevard.

It encompasses Fairview Park and the Talbert Nature Reserve.

100th Annual Newport Beach Boat Parade - Updated

Most of us think of Sunny Southern California when we consider the weather here in Newport Beach, but yesterday Mother Nature threw a storm at us that effected the first night of the Newport Beach Boat Parade.

Due to potential unstable weather conditions and strong winds, the first night of the 100th Annual Newport Beach Boat Parade was canceled last night.

If permits can be obtained from the City and permssion from Ruby's, which has to shut down for a few hours, is given, then the hope is that the fireworks will be rescheduled for Sunday evening.

If we obtain updated information, we will pass it along.

In the meantime, we're going to head out to the boat parade tonight to enjoy it as part of our family's Christmas tradition.

Costa Mesa Real Estate Minute December 17, 2008 - Eastside Costa Mesa Market Report

Eastside Costa Mesa is a charming area of Costa Mesa which borders Newport Beach, and, as a result, tends to have higher property values than some other areas of the city. It is bounded by Irvine Boulevard on the east, Newport Boulevard on the west, 15th Street on the south and Mesa Drive on the north.

Most of the original lots in Eastside Costa Mesa are around 10,000 square feet, a large size lot in Orange County, which allows for space to expand smaller, older homes if desired.
